After an upset in college, a young woman, Mare, returns home in shame to live with her mom and grandmother. With God’s perfect timing, Mare opens the door to a search & rescue diver who reveals a family mystery that had been buried under the town’s man-made lake for over 50 years. Against her grandmother’s wishes, Mare still opens and reads the miraculously preserved journals the man brought her only to find that they were penned by her great-grandmother, Mary, detailing her battle with cancer and the loss of her daughter. Inspired by her great-grandmother's strength and courageous will to fight, Mare takes everything a step forward, which eventually leads to Mary’s words not only helping Mare and her family, but their entire town and beyond decades after Mary’s death.

"Forgiving The Nightmare” is a short film based on the book and life of Mark Sowersby, who was sexually abused as a child by his stepfather but overcomes his past trauma by confronting his abuser and forgiving him.
