Women of God

2025 NOMINEES

Marissa Banks

I gave my life to Christ at Faith Bible Chapel in Arvada, CO as a child watching their Easter Drama where Pastor George Morison himself got on the cross and wept tears of thanks to God for sending Jesus to take his place and punishment for his sins in Gods court of law.

I always wanted to live for Jesus with authenticity because I saw the power of Jesus in healing my eyes and saving us from sin and death, also near death experiences with my health and life.

I ended up with a severe health trial in 2020 after delivering my daughter during Covid. The result was being stuck in a constant state of fight or flight mode. I discovered the Limbic system rewire which is a Christian brain rewiring program which helped me heal and get my strength back!

I am now in the process of launching a business in June teaching others the way to a relationship with Jesus and how to rewire their brain and renew their minds in Christ.

Debbie Copeland

One of Copelands favorite teachings is on identity. A phrase she often uses is "He says who He says I am". This phrase is evident throughout her life journey as demonstrated time and time again. Copeland, author, world class entrepreneur, adoptive parent, philanthropist, speaker, ministry leader, wife, mother, lover of souls has been sustained in her darkest, most difficult times by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Copeland enjoys helping others find their way to the identity Christ has given them. Through the redeeming grace of God Copeland has been privileged to work with Fortune 500 companies such as: Union Carbide, DOW Chemicals, Dupont to name a few as well as traveled extensively throughout the United States speaking and preaching to multitudes of men and woman who have lost all hope of a more meaningful life.

Copeland's excitement is contagious when she describes her favorite thing about ministry to others. She likens it to being a little girl with wide open eyes, motioning for you to come here, by exclaiming "come and see, come and see what God is doing". Her goal and excitement is robustly enthusiastic in ministry and is simply to come along side others to help them embrace the truth of the Bible while helping them apply the promises of God while planting seeds of an expectation of a more abundant life full of joy and peace.

Lidia Oprean

Freedom Won, Faith Lived, Hope Shared

Lidia Oprean’s life is a living testimony to the freedom found in Christ, even amid persecution. Born and raised in communist Romania, she grew up under the watchful eye of a government that sought to suppress young Christian minds. As the daughter of a Baptist preacher, Lidia witnessed firsthand the regime's tactics—forcing youth to work on Sundays and rationing food to keep families in survival mode. After graduating from university with an engineering degree in 1980, her dream of a career was immediately dashed because her public evangelism marked her as a threat. But Lidia’s faith remained unshaken, even as she waited in long, grueling lines just to secure enough food to feed her young family.

In 1987, after a long seven-year wait for approval from the Romanian government and following all legal immigration processes established by the United States, Lidia, her husband Mircea, and their young son Michael legally arrived in California, chasing the dream of freedom and opportunity. Lidia envisioned a bold future as a successful businesswoman, but God had an even greater plan. The birth of her daughter Becky, born with special needs, rocked her world—and her faith. Yet through prayer, perseverance, and love, Lidia came to see Becky not as a hardship, but as a divine blessing that would open doors for ministry and advocacy around the globe. Together, they traveled far and wide, raising awareness and championing the value and dignity of every life created by God.

Today, even after Becky's passing, Lidia continues to lift high the banner of faith, hope, and love. Her life’s hardships have only deepened her resolve to expand God’s kingdom and fight for the freedoms many take for granted. Lidia’s story reminds us all that true liberty is not given by governments but by Christ Himself. In her words, “I am ready to leave this world and be with my Savior, but until then, I will work.” Her unwavering spirit and enduring faith make her a powerful witness and a deserving nominee for Woman of God.

Marcia Jones-Washington

Some years ago, in attending a particular ministry meeting at church,we were asked to draw something that reminded us of home, of our time growing up. I knew there was no part of me that was in any way an artist. So, when my turn came to share, I explained my lack of artistic talent, voicing that I hoped it was all right that I’d come up with a poem instead. The following is what was read.

Growing up adopted, as I was known to be

I grew up in a different kind of family

Sometimes there was warmth and kindness

Sometimes there was not

But looking back, God made sure

That what I needed, is what I got

And so it was, in my childhood years. At least in the first nine or so there were many happy times; remembrances of “warmth and kindness.” The wonderful birthday celebrations, Christmases where my adoptive parents made an extra effort to convince me that there really was a Santa Claus (though I’m not sure it took much convincing!) plus, so many other “precious memories.” Yet, there were also those instances of trauma as well. An older brother kept going AWOL, and I remember the MP’s (military police) coming to our home to get him. On one occasion I was sent out to see if I could find him first, in our hometown, to alert him to stay away. This brother would later drown when I was twelve. The year before another brother had died in a diabetic coma on Easter Sunday. Neither of which were biological brothers - but they’d been considered brothers just the same. Then, in addition, both my dear grandmother and dad passed before I completed my junior year of high school.

I may have been around nine or ten when it seemed my mom began to take pleasure in reminding me of just how unwanted I was by my birth mom and how eager she’d been to get rid of me. These reminders usually came when perhaps I hadn’t done something just the way, or exactly when, my mom had told me to do something. It seemed I “owed her” total obedience because she had been the one to take me in. Throughout my teens there would also be unfounded accusations and vicious names hurled at me, but God…

Yes, it is the goodness of God that I would rather focus on. For, of my heavenly Father, I can say as Cece Winans has recorded, “all my life you have been faithful, all my life you have been so, so good.” When my circumstances weren’t good, God was there, he got me through. During the13 years or so when I lived in rebellion, God was faithful and he sent Jesus to rescue me. As an adult, the Lord enabled me to connect and build a relationship with my birth mom and three siblings through her. In more recent years, the Lord blessed me to discover and connect with two siblings from my biological dad’s side.

As for my adoptive mom, I am thankful to the Lord for impressing upon me the importance of forgiveness. Learning what I now know about mental illness, it is likely that she was bipolar. However, even if she wasn’t, I came to realize, it was necessary to forgive her, just as Christ had already forgiven me.

Looking back, I feel that much of my life - the losses, hardships, etc, prepared me for the chaplaincy and bereavement work that I have done since 2018.  Also, I am truly grateful that since 2022 the Lord has blessed me to steward an online ministry for women in chaplaincy and pastoral care.

Yes, all my life He has been faithful… So, I will speak of the goodness of God.

Woman of God, you have an enemy – the same enemy Eve faced – but you don’t have to make the same mistake. God is not your enemy! Satan is your enemy, and his plan is to use your influence for destruction in the lives of those within your area of influence. If he can convince you that you don’t measure up and that you can’t do anything about your circumstances and if he can establish a stronghold of self-pity, guilt and condemnation and if he can convince you that not even God loves you, he can hold you in bondage to self-destructive, thought patterns. If you have children, they will suffer the consequences of your thoughts, behavior and decisions or the rewards of your good choices.

God wants you to take responsibility for your life; He wants you to make wise choices. Satan wants you to continue the blame game—blaming other people for your mistakes and failures. God wants you to succeed and enjoy the more abundant life. Satan wants you to maintain a victim mentality; God wants you to be a victorious woman – more than a conqueror. Satan wants you to fail and struggle all your life. God wants to set you on a high place of success. Satan wants to hold you in the miry clay of selfishness, self-centeredness, fear, anger, unforgiveness, resentment, manipulation and depression. Which will you choose? Who will you worship? Who will you seek to please? Who do you desire? Who will you serve? Who is your first love?
